Doctor by the Universidad de Málaga with the thesis Medición indirecta de productividad empresarial 1996. Supervised by Dr. Manuel Angel Fernández Gámez.

He is Full Professor in Financial economics and Accounting (Universidad de Málaga). His main research interests include Performance, Capital Structure, Innovation, and Financial Literacy in Family Firms. He has carried out three research stays: two research stays in Hasselt University (Belgium), in the Research Center for Entrepreneurship and Family Firms; and one research stay in the universidade do Algarve (Portugal). He is author of books, numerous articles published in professional and scientific national and international reviews, besides being author of numerous presentations in national and international Conferences, where he has won several awards particularly relevant at an international level. He has published his latest research findings in journals such as Financial Innovation, Technology in Society, Small Business Economics, Eurasian Business Review, Journal of Small Business Management and Family Business Review, among others. He is also Co-Editor in Chief of the Small Business international Review (SBIR) and Associate Editor of the European Journal of Family Business (EJFB). He is part of the academic advisory board of The International Family Enterprise Centre (IFEC, Taylor’s University). He displayed a regular participation as a member of the external evaluation team for A3ES, the Portuguese Agency for the Evaluation and Accreditation of Higher Education Programmes. He has participated in the jury, as a president, of the selective process of audit technicians and auditors of Cámara de Cuentas de Andalucía (Spain). Regarding business transfer activities, he has produced technical reports and provided in-company training. Currently, he is the Director of Institute of Economics and Business for Society and he is also the Academic Director of the Firm Feasibility Chair. He is also a Member of the Committee of Firms Valuation and Financing of Spanish Association of Accounting and Business Administration (AECA) and a member of the Board of AECA. As the Academic Director of Firm Feasibility Chair, He coordinates the actions, studies and initiatives carried out by this Chair (see http://catedradeviabilidadempresarial.com). With regards to his teaching duties, he has been lecturer of Accounting disciplines (Financial accounting, Financial Statement Analysis, Accounting Consolidation, Accounting and analysis of insurance firms,…) and Finance issues (Financial direction, Financial products, Firm valuation,…) on Degrees and Master’s Degrees. In management, he has been the Secretary and Head of the Department of Finance and Accounting for four and nine years, respectively.
