Doctor by the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid with the thesis El viaje a la costa del sol (1959-1969) proyecto y transformación en los inicios del turismo moderno 2012. Supervised by Dr. Francisco Javier Boned Purkiss, Dr. María Teresa Muñoz Jiménez.
Degree in architecture in ETSA Madrid / UPM (1992). He received his Ph.D. degree in Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) in 2012 with Doctoral Dissertation “Traveling to the Costa del Sol (1959-1969): Project and transformation in the beginnings of Modern Tourism". Grant Tourism Spain 2008. Prize of Architectural Dissertation, Málaga Association of Architects 2013. He is currently a researcher and Professor in Architectural Design at School of Architecture of the University of Málaga (UMA) in degrees and Master's degree. He teaches Architectural Projects since 2005. He is the author of the two books about History of Architecture and Urbanism of the 20th century, Collection History of Art in Malaga. Second Prize of Promotion of Architecture, Málaga Association of Architects 2013. His research interest includes relationships between Architecture and Tourism, applications of Artificial Intelligence to Architectural Design problems and about the refurbishment and landscaping in European historic Centers. He is the co-author of the books History of Architecture and Urbanism in Málaga (1950-2000). He has published in various indexed journals, specialized publications, national and international conferences and seminars. He has been Visiting Profesor at Sarajevo (2023), Erevan (2023), UNAM (México DF, 2008), and also in several international workshops, Quito (2009) and San Salvador (2010). His research “Overtourist City” was selected for the XVI Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism (BEAU), in 2023. Researcher in several projects related to architectural experimentation, among which stand out: “Artificial intelligence techniques for sustainable architectural design” (2016-19), Intelligent learning and decision-making techniques in sustainable architecture projects” (2015), “Laboratory of Experimental Actions on Industrialized and Energy Efficient Construction Systems in the Solar House Prototype” (2013-16), “New Intelligent Decision Techniques Applied to the Architectural Project” (2009-12), “Urban Laboratory. Support and management of knowledge and urban experiences” (2009), “Tourism Architecture on the Costa del Sol” (2008-10). He is a member of the Board of trustees of the Foundation for Contemporary Architecture since 2014. He has received numerous Spanish prestigious industry awards in recognition of his works in architecture and urban landscaping. Over the course of the last years, he has applied its vision of architecture stripped back to the fundamental qualities of space, proportion, light and materials to a new range of scales and typologies. He has won numerous awards for their built work, from year 2001 to the present days. Awards in Urbanism and Public Space (2001, 2003, 2007, 2009), Awards in Refurbishment (2003, 2005, 2007), Awards in Architecture (2003, 2005, 2015) and Awards Interior Architecture (2003, 2018). Principal built works in Spain include (among others) Faculty of Health Sciences in UMA, Refurbishment and Landscaping of Larios Street and Flowers Square in Málaga, Landscaping of Guadalhorce valley viewpoint in Álora, Health Center in Málaga, Cervantes Theatre and Archaeological Museum in Álora, etc. He has been Finalist in the XIII Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism of Spain (BEAU) for his project of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Malaga (2016). This Biennial has been exhibited in the Alhambra of Granada (July 2016) and in The Cooper Union of New York (October 2016). His project for the renovation of the Plaza de las Flores in Malaga was selected for the 10th BEAU (2009). This Biennial has been exhibited in the Cantabria (July 2009) and in Madrid (November 2009) and Medellín (October 2010).
